Insurance & Coverage Options

We want to make nutrition counseling accessible to you.

Braxton Balanced Nutrition is in-network with Aetna, allowing eligible clients to utilize insurance benefits toward nutrition counseling services.

This page will guide you through how to verify your coverage and what to expect before getting started.

How Insurance Works

Coverage for nutrition counseling varies based on your specific plan. Some clients may have full or partial coverage, while others may have copays, coinsurance, or deductible requirements.

Because every plan is different, benefits must be verified directly with your insurance provider before your first appointment.

How to Verify Your Coverage

Taking a few minutes to understand your insurance coverage, including how many visits may be included, can help you avoid surprises and feel confident moving forward. While we’re always here to help, we recommend verifying your benefits directly with your insurance provider.

Step 1: Call Your Insurance Provider

Use the number on the back of your insurance card and ask about your outpatient nutrition counseling benefits with an in-network registered dietitian.

Step 2: Ask These Questions

  • Do I have coverage for nutrition counseling under CPT codes: 97802, 97803, and 97804?
  • Do I need a referral or prior authorization?
  • Are telehealth visits covered?
  • How many visits are allowed per year? And are there any session caps?
  • Does my deductible apply? And has it been met?
  • Do I have a copay or coinsurance?
  • Are there diagnosis restrictions for coverage?
  • Are the diagnosis codes Z71.3 covered for preventative services?
  • Does my plan cover visits for any of the other following diagnosis codes (Z13.89, E66.3, E66.9, E11.9, E78.5, I10, Z83.49, Z83.3)
  • Is my provider in-network?

Step 3: Provide This Information

When calling your insurance company, have this information ready:

  • Provider: Rachel Braxton, MHS, RD, LDN
  • Practice: Braxton Balanced Nutrition, LLC
  • Your policy number
  • Your date of birth
  • Your address
  • The diagnosis codes for which you need coverage

Important Notes

  • Insurance benefits vary by plan.
  • Verification does not guarantee payment or coverage.
  • You are responsible for any costs not covered by insurance.
  • Referrals/authorizations must be completed before your visit, if required.

If you’re unsure how to navigate this process, we’re happy to help guide you through what to ask and how to interpret your results.
